as long as i can remember i’ve been fascinated with patterns and music (see images below). i have always been drawn to the idea of geometry and music being fundamental. everything in nature can be reduced to simple geometric shapes and sounds, repeating themselves and creating patterns, some of them visible or audible to the human eye or ear and some not. the above quotes - one from the distant past, one from the last century and one contemporary quote - demonstrate the timelessness of this basic idea. it took me a long time to realize that it is my purpose to do something with this concept.
i started working with wood and got my journeyman certificate in germany, where i grew up. but somehow i didn’t stick with it. after an unsuccessful attempt to become a civil engineer, i learned to work with metal and became a silversmith jewelry designer, graduating with a bachelor degree in applied design from san diego state, studying under the great and awesome Helen Shirk. after about seven years i stopped making jewelry because my heart was not completely in it. i realized, even though i love working with metal, i don’t specifically care about making jewelry objects, i just love creating things, working with different materials and learning something new. and then, a few years later, i started planning and creating my first painting. since then i can’t stop and i feel like I’ve finally found my calling.
colors, shapes and sounds provide an endless source of inspiration to create visual vibrations that are pleasing to the eye and soul. that’s my jam.
