icosahedron orb

materials: sterling silver

method:  hand fabricated, pierced

object made from from 20 tetrahedrons in an attempt to see  how precise/perfect i can hand fabricate objects compared to machine made objects. if the tetrahedrons had turned out perfectly they would have formed the icosahedron without any gaps. but of course i'm not a machine. after this project, i started to relax a bit more about precision and perfection.

the orb was a 2006 NICHE awards finalist in the category metal: fabricated/forged (NICHE, the magazine for progressive retailers, does not exist anymore).
